Your 3-Day Outer Banks Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive and Explore Corolla
Once you arrive in the Outer Banks and get settled in your rental, head north to Corolla, one of the area’s most popular spots. Begin your trip at the historic Currituck Beach Lighthouse, where you can climb to the top for amazing views of the coast.
Spend your afternoon exploring Historic Corolla Village, checking out local shops, and enjoying the relaxed vibe. Before dinner, take a walk on Corolla Beach and enjoy the ocean views. For a great way to end your first day, have dinner at one of Corolla’s favorite local restaurants. Then, head back to your rental to relax and get ready for tomorrow’s adventures.
Day 2: Wild Horses and Outdoor Adventure
No trip to the Outer Banks is complete without seeing the famous wild horses of Corolla. Start your morning with a guided wild horse tour and explore the sandy beaches and backroads where these beautiful Spanish mustangs have lived for centuries. After your tour, spend some time enjoying the beach or visiting the nearby Currituck National Wildlife Refuge.
In the afternoon, head south to Nags Head and visit Jockey’s Ridge State Park. This park has the tallest sand dunes on the East Coast and offers amazing views and lots of fun activities. You can fly a kite, hike the dunes, or try a hang-gliding lesson for a new way to see the Outer Banks. Once the sun sets, stick around to watch the sky turn bright shades of orange and rose over the sound. It’s a must-see during any OBX weekend trip.

Day 3: History, Beaches, and One Last Adventure
On your last day, explore the history that formed the Outer Banks. Begin your morning at the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, where you can learn about the first powered flight and see exhibits about aviation history.
After that, visit one of the beautiful local beaches to relax before heading home. You can swim, look for shells, fish, or just enjoy the ocean breeze. It’s a great way to end your Outer Banks weekend. If you have extra time before you leave, stop by Roanoke Island and Manteo. You’ll find waterfront views, unique shops, and a look at one of the most historic spots on the North Carolina coast.
