Day 3: Chicamacomico Life Saving Station

Despite decades of storms, flooding, and ferocious winds, North Carolina’s first life-saving station remains. The site, better known as the Chicamacomico Life Saving Station, has become a popular attraction for Hatteras Island visitors due to its constant reminder of the area’s heroic efforts.

Day 4: Wright Brothers National Memorial

Since taking flight in Kill Devil Hills in 1903, the Wright Brothers have become regarded figures in North Carolina’s history. Today, history enthusiasts from near and far visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial to get a glimpse of the famous site that changed the world.

Day 5: Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum

Dedicated to maritime history, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum sheds light on the more than 1,500 known shipwrecks found along the Outer Banks coast. The museum offers varied year-round programming for people of all ages and even displays artifacts dating back to the 1500s.

Day 6: Fort Raleigh National Historic Site

From the Lost Colony to its part in the Civil War, the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site is filled with interesting history. The remarkable site also preserves the cultural heritage of Native Americans, African Americans, and European Americans, that once lived on Roanoke Island.
