Romantic Things to Do in the Outer Banks

1. Watch an Outer Banks Sunset

Outer Banks is known for its incredible places to watch a sunset. You have it all. The sound of the waves crashing, your special someone, and a sky full of pink, blue, and purple streaks of colored clouds.

One of the best places to watch a sunset on the Outer Banks is Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head. Climb to the top of the sand dune for a full view of a watercolor painted sky. But, make sure you check their hours. During the winter months, the park closes at 6 p.m., and during the summer, they close at 9 p.m.

2. Horseback Riding on the Outer Banks

OBX is set apart from most beach destinations because we have majestic, wild horses on our shores! You can set up a horseback riding tour on the beach for a romantic excursion as you explore the forests and coastline.

Equine Adventures takes you on a journey along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The two-hour tour also allows you to see the beautiful Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

3. Explore the Hatteras Island Villages

Hatteras Island sits under seven charming villages that you need to explore. The long stretch of shoreline is full of incredible wildlife areas. As you explore each of the towns, you’ll find that each has its own style and personality.

The villages include Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras. The closest town is Rodanthe, which is home to the 13-mile long Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. If you’re looking for some fantastic fine dining, head a little further south to Cafe Pamlico in Buxton. You’re encouraged to make a reservation as this is one of the best dining spots on the island. Then, indulge in excellent OBX cuisine as you enjoy breathtaking waterfront views!

4. Get Cozy in Summer Love
